Circular Communities Scotland is delighted to announce that Laura Alcock-Ferguson will be joining us as our interim CEO, beginning December 1st 2023.
In June, we shared that our current CEO Michael Cook will be taking a sabbatical from his role between January – August 2024. If you missed this notice, you can find further details here.
December will serve as a handover period, with Michael and Laura both in post and contactable through the usual Circular Communities Scotland channels.
Laura has been a social justice and environmental activist for 20 years, an experienced charity leader, director and CEO for 13 of those and a freelance strategy consultant for four years. Her leadership has spanned start-ups, turnarounds, coalitions, small charities, award-winning behaviour-change campaigns, culture-change, and inclusion and diversity programmes. As the founding Executive Director of the award-winning Campaign to End Loneliness, Laura oversaw campaigning and policy work that led to significant social change across the UK, which she received an MBE for in 2021.
Laura also holds a Masters in Business Administration with specialisms in strategy and social movements and completed a postgraduate module on Carbon and Climate Literacy with Glasgow University in 2023. She is also an active member of the third sector leadership bodies, ACOSVO and ACEVO.
Laura says:
“I’m delighted to be joining as interim CEO of Circular Communities Scotland to lead such a strong team committed to social and environmental justice during 2023-2024. I know there is an urgent need to reduce our carbon emissions through re-use and the circular economy. I’m an active supporter, customer and cheerleader of many of Circular Communities Scotland’s members in Southern Scotland and look forward to meeting and supporting wider members and other stakeholders.”
The Circular Communities Scotland board, team and membership would like to extend a warm welcome to Laura, who we look forward to working with to create a more circular economy in Scotland over the coming year.
